Greg Kopecky

I grew up in the Midwest with swimming as my main sport. I started triathlon in college, was way too serious for my own good, but managed to learn a lot from my own mistakes. I’ve been in the triathlon and cycling industry since high school, working in bike shops, interning at Zipp, and now working for SRAM in our Colorado development office. I’m type-A, and have an insatiable appetite for simplicity.

What Saddle Do You Ride:
ALL of them are better than a ‘standard’ saddle, but the Breakaway is my all-time favorite.
Favorite Music:
Lots.
Favorite Food:
Can’t single out a favorite. I subscribe to Philip Graves’ motto: “Food go in gob.”
How Do You Relax:
Hiking, reading, cleaning out the garage, working on my bikes provided I’m not in a hurry, anything non-triathlon-related.
How Do You Prepare For An Event:
Summon the fury.
Recent Achievement:
Almost keeping up with Sarah Haskins (fellow ISM athlete) at an OTC swim practice, and subsequently slamming a huge omelet. Both seemed impossible at the outset.
Favorite Quote:
“People tend the take everything too seriously. Especially themselves. Yep. And that's probably what makes 'em scared and hurt so much of the time. Life is too serious to take that seriously.” – Tom Robbins
What's In Your Transition Bag You Can't Live Without:
Headlamp and rubber bands (but I don’t think I’d drop dead if I forgot them).
Where Do You See Yourself In Ten Years:
In a place where I can look myself in the mirror and honestly say that I’ve learned, experienced, and grown as much as I possibly could have in the past 10 years.
Career Highlights:
  • Finishing my first full season as a professional in 2011
  • Getting my first Iron-distance top-10 at Rev3 Sandusky
  • Meeting a lot of great people
  • Learning a heck of a lot
