In my first-ever triathlon, summer 2002, I found out about, and decided to enter at 11pm the night before the race. I competed under my friend's name of "Brian Treece", as he decided not to race. Race morning we adjusted the seat height and goggle straps. The 400m swim just about killed me, I made up ground on the bike, and pushed the run to finish 3rd in my age-group. Racing in running shorts and flats, I looked and played the part of a runner-turned-newby triathlete. I moved to Boulder for Chemistry grad school in 2003 and joined the CU triathlon team right away. Within 2 years I made the decision to quit school early and take my triathlon pro card, and have never looked back! Married to beautiful, loving, supportive wife, Charity, together we have two children, 16 yr old Austin and baby Selah, and an English Pointer dog named Sushi. I compete for the Tri4HIM Elite Triathlon team and am a member of the Tri4HIM Coaching staff.
