Meredith Kessler

Meredith grew up in Columbus, Ohio where she was a 4-sport athlete and was inducted into her high school's Athletic Hall of Fame. Meredith went on to receive a Division I athletic scholarship at Syracuse University where she participated in field hockey and track. After graduation in 2000, she used her graduation money to purchase her first triathlon bike and entered in a full Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) two weeks later. From that moment on, she caught the spirit of Ironman competition and hasn't looked back. Since that first Ironman in 2000, Meredith has competed in over 40 full Ironman races all over the United States. She was undefeated in her 2009 season having earned first place amateur woman in every race that year. In addition, she holds the amateur course record at Ironman Arizona and the age-group course record at Wildflower 70.3. As 2009 came to a close, Meredith turned professional and garnered success quickly. In this first season as a rookie pro, she won Ironman Canada and placed 2nd in both Ironman St. George and Ironman Coeur D'Alene. In 2011, Meredith achieved the bronze medal at the Long Distance World Championships and was top three in seven races.

Outside of her career as an professional Ironman triathlete, Meredith takes pride in being the best wife, daughter, sister, friend and mentor that she can possibly be everyday. Her family, friends and coach (industry acclaimed Matt Dixon - PurplePatch Fitness) are paramount in fueling her energies to compete at such an elite level. She is very thankful and grateful to be able to endure this sport and has never taken it for granted. In that regard, Meredith has made it a priority to give back to the sport in any way possible. At the professional development level, Meredith has become a coach and mentor to several athletes under the purplepatch umbrella. To all those weekend warriors who share the love for the sport with Meredith, she finds time to instruct power-based cycling classes at VeloSF designed for triathletes and cyclists of all levels. Meredith is someone who strives to acquire proficiency in more than just one field while living her philosophy of BALANCE in life.

Testimonial:
"I love the Adamo Peloton (in Red!). Even though it is made for time trial racing, it's sleek and supportive shape seems to work for me even in an Ironman distance race. I also adore the Adamo Racing II saddle which I race on as well. First class saddles all around no matter which you choose."

What Saddle Do You Ride:
Adamo Peloton & Adamo Racing II
Favorite Music:
I love an array of music: from Pearl Jam to Dave Matthews to Snoop Dogg to Coldplay to Eminem. Depends on the setting!
Favorite Food:
Graham Crackers with Nutella. Add a glass of milk and you can't go wrong!
How Do You Relax:
Sharing (with my husband) our favorite bottles of pinot from our wine collection that we have grown over past ten years. We love relaxing in wine country and appreciate out frequent visits there whether it is just the two of us or with family or friends.
How Do You Prepare For An Event:
Visualization mixed in with a routine pre-race treadmill 'wake up the engine' run while reminding myself all of the things that are most important in life.
Recent Achievement:
Nearing the 9 hour mark (9:00:14) at Ironman Arizona and placing third behind two incredible athletes. It was also humbling to learn that this time was the 3rd fastest American female Ironman split on US soil.
Favorite Quote:
"KCCO! = Keep Calm, Carry On!"
What's In Your Transition Bag You Can't Live Without:
Since nutrition is an integral part of the race, it's imperative that I get my hands on my Mountain Berry & Strawberry Clif Bloks for the bike as well as Clif Vanilla Gel for the run! These things are essential in both transition bags! As is my chapstick!
Where Do You See Yourself In Ten Years:
I would love to continue to live a happy, healthy and balanced life with the family and friends that I'm so fortunate to have presently. I hope to raise a family one day and will continue to grow my next adventures after the sport.
